Photo Sharing and the Google Plus Android App
To round out this series of Google Plus tips posts, a seemingly proper follow-up to my post sharing management write-up, is photo sharing from the extremely fancy Android app.
I guess there are a few key differences (as of this posting) between the iPhone app for Google+ and the Android app, mainly – it is photo sharing. With Android the options are pretty dead simple, you can use the home screen widget, use the share option from the gallery sub-menu or leverage the functionality of “Instant Upload”.
The Home Screen Widget

Note: I have the Motorola Atrix, not sure if the menu options differ from model to model:
To add the widget to your home screen:
- On the home screen, long press an empty space
- Choose “Android Widgets”
- Scroll to “Google+”
The biggest thing about the widget is, the “camera” icon, seen in the above image, just to the right of the share box. Pressing that will launch the camera application immediately, and present you with a very fast flow for posting a photo.
- Press the camera icon
- Select with “effect” you want to give it (as per usual with your normal camera app)
- Snap your photo
- Press “Done” (or Retake / Cancel)
Use the “Circles” icon to select who you want to share with- The rest is all downhill from there
- Note: You can also add or remove your location information from the post (see below)
The Share screen
Simple diagram of how things work:

Note: You can “attach” up to eight photos per mobile share.
Instant Upload
If you’re using Instant Upload, click this to get to your photos: https://plus.google.com/photos/fromphone
- They are sorted by “Date Taken”
- These photos are only visible to you until you share them
To Share or Delete photos from Instant Upload
- Select the photos you want to share or delete
- Then click Share or Delete (pretty straight forward)
- If sharing, follow the regular sharing steps & that’s that
- Note: clicking the images does not open them — To preview images, click the magnifying glass.

So far, that’s how I’ve been handling photo sharing from my Android and via Instant Upload on Google+
If you have another way or any additional tips, feel free to share them in the comments, I’ll be happy to post them. Just be sure to leave your Google+ profile like so I can give proper attribution.
